New York-Beirut, 16 July 2018 (Communication and Information Unit)–The Egyptian Chairmanship of the G77 and China met with the Executive Secretaries of the five United Nations regional commissions to discuss joint collaboration on priorities for the members of the Group.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum in New York, the United Nations central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Mohamed Ali Alhakim, highlighted the importance of having Egypt, a member State of ESCWA, at the helm of the G77 and China, and expressed his appreciation for its support to the regional dimension of development.
Mr. Alhakim also highlighted building the capacity of negotiators of G77 and China as an area where joint action can be taken with the Group.
The four other UN regional commissions are ESCAP, ECLAC, ECA and ECE.
